This novel chronicles the 100 years of Violeta del Valle, who recounts her life story to her grandson - from her birth during the Spanish Flu and South American childhood in a privileged family - until the Great Depression when her father lost everything and took his own life. She went on to marry unsuitably, and was rescued from that with a wild affair with a dashing RAF pilot which forever changed the course of her life. Having been born into one pandemic, at the age of 100 another one comes along in the form of COVID-19, and in between those two events, hers is a life filled with joy and sorrow which is rich in the reading.
