A note from Sharron
From the mountains to the sea
When the lease in Tekapo came up for renewal, I made the decision not to re-sign.
I live in Christchurch, and for the past twelve months I’ve been travelling back and forth to run the shop. I love this village, but I want to be present in my own community, where I can be there every day.
Sumner is a coastal village with real soul: the beach, the hills, great cafes, and creative, thoughtful people. It’s exactly the kind of place you’d want to spend a slow afternoon with a good book.
Thank you for every visit, every story and every conversation across the counter here. The best chapter is just beginning.

Why the new name?
The name tells the story
Chapter noun
For books, for stories, and for new beginnings. Petronella’s was named after its founder; this next chapter is Sharron’s to write.
Cove noun
A sheltered place by the sea. A place to pause, slow down and take your time, just like Sumner’s coastline.
